B.C. man gets court date over allegations he tried to lure a teenaged girl
VANCOUVER – A man from B.C.’s Okanagan who allegedly tried to pick up a 13-year-old girl in an online chat forum has instead received a date in court.
Sgt. Mat Van Laer of the BC Integrated Child Exploitation unit says 29-year-old Tyler James Nowek made his first court appearance on Monday, charged with luring a child and making child pornography.
Van Laer says the police investigation began in March when an online chat between the accused and a member of the unit who was posing as a teen became sexually explicit.
He says the man allegedly admitted he shouldn’t be chatting to who he thought was a teen but then suggested meeting her for a date.
Van Laer says Nowek was arrested by police at his West Kelowna place of business April 2.
He says police served a search warrant at the business, and Nowek was released on conditions governing his access to children and the Internet.
