California university students gather at memorial to mourn victims of deadly rampage

GOLETA, Calif. – Thousands of students at the University of California, Santa Barbara are mourning six of their fellow students who were killed in a deadly weekend rampage.

University of California officials remembered the six victims on Tuesday and thanked students, police and others who dealt with the tragedy.

UC President Janet Napolitano urged that the victims be remembered for what they did in their brief lives and said they would not be gone as long as people held them in their hearts.

The memorial was held at the campus stadium.

The school cancelled classes and declared a day of mourning and reflection on Tuesday, four days after the attack.
