
Bourque hat trick leads Habs to 7-4 win over Rangers; New York leads series 3-2
MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a hat trick and the Montreal Canadiens kept their playoff hopes alive with a 7-4 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference final.
New York has a 3-2 series lead and would have advanced to the Stanley Cup final with a victory.
Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty also scored for Montreal. David Desharnais scored into an empty net for the Canadiens.
Andrei Markov had three assists.
Derek Stepan struck twice for the Rangers, while Rick Nash and Chris Kreider had goals too.
Game 6 will be played in New York on Thursday.
