Cool weekend ahead for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops has a chilly weekend in store before temperatures begin to moderate next week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says the city is now under a cold ridge of high pressure, bringing with it a stagnant air mass with clouds and the odd snow flurry.

Sekhon says the clouds are starting to burn off and over the next two days a mix of sun and cloud is expected.

“The change really begins on Sunday, when a weak disturbance is expected to bring a chance of flurries to the city later Sunday,” he says. Winds are in the forecast for tomorrow which will amplify the cold conditions.

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of only -3 Celsius today, Dec. 6, for Kamloops under a mainly cloudy sky. The temperature will dip to -5 C tonight, with east winds picking up tomorrow morning.

By tomorrow afternoon, windchills in the city could make the day’s high temperature of – 3 C feel like -16 C under cloudy skies.

Friday's overnight low of -10 C will only rebound to a high of -6 C on Saturday with a mix of sun and cloud. Saturday night will be clear and cold with a low of -9 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -3 C and a low of -4 C. A 40 per cent chance of flurries will accompany clouds moving into the region on Sunday night, with a low of -4 C.

A chance of flurries continues into Monday, as highs reach -1 C under cloudy skies.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 1 C and lows of -5 C.
