Dow Jones industrial average creeps up to a record-high close; S&P 500 also at all-time high
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Dow Jones industrial average has edged up to finish at a record high close.
The Dow last closed at a record two weeks ago.
The index of 30 major U.S. companies gained 18 points, or 0.1 per cent, to close at 16,717 Friday, three points above its previous high.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose three points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,923. The S&P 500 is also at a record high.
It was an overall quiet day on the stock market. Indexes spent most of the time drifting between small gains and losses.
The S&P 500 finished the month of May up 2.1 per cent. That’s its best month since February and the fourth monthly increase in a row.
The Nasdaq fell five points, or 0.1 per cent, to 4,242.
