Both snow and rain in this week’s Okanagan forecast

OKANAGAN – A wintery start to the week in the Okanagan will give way to rising temperatures which will turn the snow to rain.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says more snow is expect to fall starting sometime tonight, Dec. 10, in the Okanagan and continue through Tuesday before changing to rain.

Today the valley should see mostly cloudy skies with the wind picking up out of the south at 20 km/h and a high of 2 Celsius. Up to two centimetres of snow is expected to fall overnight with a low of -4 C and a wind chill of -6 C.

The snow will continue tomorrow with another two to four cm expected. A southerly wind at 20 km/h will make the high of 1 C feel more like -7 C.

Sekhon says the Coquihalla Highway could receive between 12 and 25 cm of snow between Hope and Merritt overnight Tuesday through Wednesday morning, with six to 10 cm on the highway between Merritt and Kamloops.

More snow is expected on the valley floor in the Okanagan through Tuesday night with a low of -2 C expected.

The snow turns to rain showers on Wednesday with a high of 4 C and a low of 1 C.

On Thursday expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 4 C and a low of 1 C.

The rain returns Friday with an anticipated high of 5 C and a low of 0 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of around -1 C and lows of about -7 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
