First phase of Phoenix airport project nearing completion

Phoenix officials say the first phase of project to modernize Terminal 3 of Sky Harbor International Airport is just months from completion.

Officials say the project expected to be completed by year’s end includes adding more airline ticket counters, expanding luggage handling capacity and consolidating two security checkpoints into one.

The next two phases of the Terminal 3 project are scheduled to be completed in 2020. They include razing and replacing the south concourse, adding new food and retail concessions and upgrading the north concourse.

City officials say the $590 million project is finance through airport revenue such as parking, concessions and tenant fees but not local tax dollars.
