Anonymous “HiddenCash” scavenger hunt moves to the Southern California beach

[byline]

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – The California cash rush has moved to the beach.

More than the usual kids with pails and men with metal detectors were digging through the sand in Hermosa Beach on Saturday as the anonymous man with the Twitter handle @HiddenCash moved his upscale scavenger hunt from San Francisco to Southern California.

City News Service reports that the anonymous benefactor buried 36 small plastic Angry Birds orbs in the sand.

The account then tweeted: “Hermosa Beach, between the pier and the volleyball nets to your left (as you face the ocean),” at about 11:30 a.m. “Go!”

Most were found by 5 p.m.

The same Twitter persona directed people to envelopes with $50 and $100 inside them in San Francisco this week.

The cash-dropper says his giveaways are a “social experiment for good.”
