Wanted, declared dead, captured: Prosecutors say ex-banker taking plea deal to end fraud case
SAVANNAH, Ga. – In the past two years, a former investment adviser in Georgia has been a fugitive wanted on bank fraud charges, declared dead and captured alive.
Now it looks like his strange criminal case is coming to an end.
A federal prosecutor said in court Tuesday that 47-year-old Aubrey Price has agreed to a plea deal. A hearing is scheduled Thursday.
Price vanished in June 2012 after prosecutors say he lost millions of dollars belonging to investors and the Montgomery Bank & Trust. He wrote letters hinting he had committed suicide.
Six months after his disappearance, a judge declared Price dead at his wife’s request. Price turned up during a traffic stop on New Year’s Eve and has been in jail awaiting trial ever since.
Price’s attorney declined to comment.
