Work starting on a big new Glenrosa housing project
KELOWNA – Now that a roundabout is open at Glenrosa and Webber Roads in West Kelowna, work has started on the subdivision that will be served by the new traffic circle.
Called The Trails, the project was approved by West Kelowna city council in March 2014.
The roundabout was required as a condition of rezoning for the land and was paid for by the developer, which is listed as The Trails Development Inc.
Work has started on the first 80 lots of the single-family housing portion of the property, said City of West Kelowna Planning Manager Brent Magnan.
Those lots will connect to Yorkton, Morningside and Astoria roads to the north and allow existing residents to exit via Yorkton Road at the roundabout.
The development also includes two parcels, including one next to Glenrosa Road, zoned for low density multi-family housing, up to three storeys, Magnan said.
A small lot south of Yorkton is zoned neighbourhood-commercial but, because of the size and steepness of that land, Magnan expects only a small scale development will be able to fit on that site.
Both the multi-family and commercial buildings will have to go to council for development permits so, at this time, Magnan doesn’t know what the developer’s plans are.
Two parks will be built as well, including a one-hectare park just south of the existing Yorkton and Morningside Roads.
