Video from South African cyclist’s helmet cam leads police to suspected robbers who stole bike

JOHANNESBURG – South African police say video footage from a camera mounted on a cyclist’s helmet helped them track and arrest three alleged thieves who accosted the man.

Police said Thursday that the cyclist was robbed at gunpoint of his mountain bike and cellular telephone in Somerset West in Western Cape province.

Video footage recorded on the cyclist’s helmet camera shows a gunman running toward the cyclist, and two other assailants are also seen. At one point the gunman peers into the camera lens, perhaps not recognizing what it is, and makes no move to take the helmet. The incident happened on Saturday, police say.
