Feng takes lead into fourth round at Manulife Financial LPGA Classic

WATERLOO, Ont. – Shanshan Feng had another solid round at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, and defending champion Hee Young Park couldn’t keep up.

Feng shot 4-under 67 Saturday to take a two-stroke lead after three rounds at Waterloo’s Grey Silo Golf Course.

Feng had two birdies and an eagle on her front nine, then had a more pedestrian back nine — a birdie and her first bogey of the tournament on the 16th hole. It was still enough to post a three-round score of 15-under 198 and open up a small lead.

Inbee Park (65), the Tour’s second-ranked player, and American star Michelle Wie (68), who started the round one shot behind the leaders, were in second at 13-under 200.

Christie Kerr (65) was alone in fourth at 12 under, while Lydia Ko had the day’s top round of 7-under 64 to move into a tie for fifth with Anna Nordqvist (69).

Hee Young Park entered Saturday’s round tied with Feng atop the leaderboard, but her round of 1-over 72 dropped her into a four-way tie for seventh at 10 under. She had three straight bogeys on holes 15 through 17 to fall into the pack chasing Feng.

Hamilton’s Alena Sharp moved up the leaderboard playing a bogey-free round of 6 under par 65, jumping from 60th into a tie for 23rd at 6-under 207. Sharp finished the third round one stroke behind Stacy Lewis, the top player on the LPGA Tour, who shot 3-under 68 Saturday.

Sue Kim, of Langley, B.C., was at 5 under after shooting a round of 67, while Jennifer Kirby and Brooke Henderson sat at 3 under after identical scores of 69.

Brantford’s Nicole Vandermade shot an even par 71 to sit at 1 over heading into the final day.
