Health Canada yanks Canadadrugs.com’s licence over manufacturing concerns

TORONTO – Health Canada has suspended the establishment licence of pharmaceutical wholesaler Canadadrugs.com of Winnipeg over “significant concerns” about its manufacturing practices discovered during an inspection.

The federal department says the licence suspension means Canadadrugs.com cannot wholesale drugs to retail pharmacies, other distributors or wholesalers until these concerns are fully addressed.

Canadadrugs.com is also separately licensed as a pharmacy by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba to sell drugs authorized in Canada to consumers via the Internet.

Canadians are still able to purchase their drugs from the company’s website because the license issued by the College of Pharmacists is still valid.

Health Canada has notified the college about its inspection findings and the suspension of Canadadrugs.com’s establishment licence.

A company must comply with good manufacturing practices under Food and Drug regulations to ensure medications sold in Canada are safe, effective and of high quality.
