Nigerian students overwhelmed to return to Canada to continue studies

REGINA – Two Nigerian students say they are overwhelmed to be back studying Canada after being deported last year for visa violations.

Victoria Ordu and Favour Amadi have been readmitted to the University of Regina and both of their scholarships at the school have been reinstated.

The two students were told in June 2012 that they had to leave Canada because they took summer jobs off campus at Walmart without proper student work permits.

They only had social insurance cards that allowed them to work on campus and said they didn’t realize the mistake.

Ordu says she’s in shock that she will be going back to class because she thought she was on the verge of losing her education and felt all hope was lost.

She says getting an education is very important, especially in the wake of the kidnapping of about 300 girls from a school in Nigeria.
