Remembrance Day weekend events

KELOWNA – The Remembrance Day weekend weather forecast for Kelowna may be unpredictable, but there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities around the Central Okanagan to keep you entertained 

On Saturday, the Kelowna Museum will feature Voices of the Town: Vaudeville in Canada, from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

Voices of the Town recreates an evening at an old Vaudeville theatre. Photographs from the Balsillie Collection of Roy Studio Images will be on display as well as the authentic costume worn by Oklahoma Jack, a sharp-shooting Vaudevillian who performed with Buffalo Bill Cody.

The Lake Country Art Gallery (10356A Bottom Wood Lake Rd) will present Natural Affinity, an exhibition of clay, glass and photography by Vernon artists Buffy Baumbrough, Patricia Doyla and Gale Woodhouse on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Remembrance Day Events

The Royal Canadian Legion, Westbank Branch #288, will host a parade at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Remembrance Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at Royal LePage Place (2760 Cameron Road in West Kelowna). 

A ceremony at George Elliot Secondary School (10241 Bottom Wood Lake Road) starting at 10:30 a.m. by the Royal Canadian Legion, Oyama Branch #189. There will also be a public open house at the Legion Branch, located at 15712 Oyama Rd.

A ceremony at the Cenotaph in Lions Park preceded by a parade starting at 10:30 a.m. from the Unit Clubhouse parking lot (270 Dougall Road North to Gray Road and into the park) by The Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Unit 376. Following the ceremony and parade dismissal, an Open House reception will take place at the Unit clubhouse, 270 Dougall Road North.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Kelowna Branch #26, will present a parade and Colour Party starting at 10:30 a.m. at City Park Cenotaph in Veendam Gardens.  Youth groups are invited to the Legion Branch (1380 Bertram St.) for lunch following the ceremony.

A period of remembrance at the Parkinson Recreation Centre (1800 Parkinson Way) from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Remembrance Day service from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. by The Okanagan military museum (1424 Ellis St.). This year, for the first time, the museum will be giving guided tours of the military museum collection starting at noon, 12:45 and 1:30.
