Pakistan officials: Suspected US drone strike kills 10 people in northwest, near Afghan border

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least 10 people in a northwestern tribal district near the Afghan border.

Two officials say a pair of American drones dropped three missiles on a militant compound and a vehicle early on Thursday in Ghulam Khan town of North Waziristan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to media.

There was no immediate information on the identities of those killed.

The strike came hours after an earlier strike, also in North Waziristan, killed three militants on Wednesday night, marking the resumption of the CIA-led program in Pakistan after a nearly six-month hiatus.

North Waziristan is home to a mix of local and al-Qaida-linked foreign militant groups.
