MONTREAL – The agency that regulates Quebec’s bars has rejected an idea by the City of Montreal to keep certain watering holes open until 6 a.m.
It says keeping the bars open longer is not in the public interest.
It also said today that extending the hours would likely disturb the public peace.
It reached its decision after two days of public hearings on the merits of the idea.
The idea was the brainchild of Mayor Denis Coderre’s administration and was aimed at boosting business and tourism.
Nearly 20 bars were going to take part in the pilot project on various weekends throughout the summer.
