Kamloops filmmaker looking for 30 extras for music video

KAMLOOPS –  A local filmmaker is looking to fill 30 spots for a music video to be filmed in Kamloops in the new year. 

Vesta Giles, a local screenwriter, has been working on the production of her music video, "Take Down These Walls" which will be using all Kamloops talent for a scene portraying a protest.

The music for the video was written by B.C. composer Brian Tate and performed by the Vancouver 100-person City Soul Choir. 

"(Brian) has been a composer for choirs for a number of years," Giles says. "He was at a conference in Washington, D.C. a couple years ago and it was right when (U.S. President Donald) Trump had been elected and he was right in Washington and all he was hearing was talk about this wall, building this wall, and he was angry about it."

Giles says this inspired Tate to write a song about what he experienced in the U.S.

"The song is about taking down the walls, not just physical walls but the walls we put up between people and cultures, and between races and religions," she says. 

Giles says her music video will use sign language to communicate with its audience.

"This music video is going to be entirely done in sign language," she says. "Hands are tools to build the walls but they're also the tools to take down the walls."

The Kamloops screenwriter is looking for roughly 30 extras for Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Giles would also like to let people know it will be an outdoor shoot so extras must be prepared to be out in the cold for four hours. Although the gig is not paid, there will be pizza and coffee for those who attend.
