OTTAWA – Finance Minister Joe Oliver has named Jeremy Rudin as the new Superintendent of Financial Institutions, effective June 29.
Rudin, currently an assistant deputy minister in the Department of Finance, was appointed to a seven-year term as the head of the financial regulator.
He succeeds Julie Dickson, who has been widely praised for her no-nonsense approach through the financial crisis the plunged Canada into recession.
As the assistant deputy minister of the financial sector policy branch, Rudin was responsible for the development of a range of measures to support access to credit during the financial crisis.
“He has extensive direct experience in the oversight of financial institutions, financial system stability and financial markets,” Oliver said in a statement Friday.
“He played an important role in Canada’s response to the global financial crisis. These skills and knowledge will be an asset in this critical position.”
OSFI is responsible for the regulation and supervision of financial institutions and private pension plans under federal jurisdiction.
