DreamWorks Animation mixing fan favourites like ‘Shrek’ with newbies in YouTube channel launch
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – DreamWorks TV is debuting as a YouTube channel in one of the first attempts by Hollywood to mesh the polished look of movies with the chaos of content on the Internet.
The channel is aimed at 6 to 11 year olds and will have a mix of videos featuring characters familiar to DreamWorks Animation audiences alongside those who haven’t yet made it big. So you’ll see such characters as Po from “Kung Fu Panda” and Shrek, as well as the cardboard cut-out animated news anchors Mike Lordan and Mariko Hasebe from “The Report Card.”
Veteran TV and movie producer Brian Robbins says the launch of the channel is similar to the debut of cable networks like MTV and ESPN in the 1970s and ’80s. Those have become multibillion-dollar enterprises.
