Olympic silver medallist Bernard announces retirement from competitive curling

Cheryl Bernard has announced her retirement from competitive curling.

She made four appearances at the Canadian championships and won a silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Bernard skipped Team Alberta at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 1992, 1996, 2007 and 2009.

Her best result was a runner-up finish in Thunder Bay, Ont., in 1996.

The 47-year-old Bernard, a native of Grande Prairie, Alta., says she plans to spend more time with her family and continue her charity work.
