Severe weather hits central Ontario, officials respond to reports of injuries
ANGUS, Ont. – Provincial police say they are receiving reports of damage due to severe weather in the central Ontario community of Angus.
OPP Const. Paul Nancekivell says he has no details on the damage, but photographs posted on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook show damage to roofs and walls of houses.
A fire department official in Essa Township says the station was responding to calls about “multiple injuries at different locations.”
Environment Canada had issued tornado warnings for several communities in the area.
The weather agency says a line of severe thunderstorms with several embedded tornadoes was moving into the Lake Simcoe region.
Environment Canada says the storms were bringing wind gusts of over 100 kilometres per hour and large hail was likely.
