LYTTON – The hunt is on for a suspect after a cyclist riding in the Cache Creek 600 event was shot near Spences Bridge early Sunday morning.

RCMP say the Burnaby man, 59, was shot while riding on the Trans Canada at about 1 a.m.

The victim suffered serious injuries but he’s expected live. He is in stable condition in hospital. The man's name hasn't been released.

Police say the shooting does not appear to be targeted.

The suspect took off in a pick-up truck. There’s no description of the truck or the shooter.

“The investigation is ongoing and police are looking to speak with anyone who has any information regarding the incident, the suspect or the pickup truck,” Const. Kris Clark says in a media release.

The Cache Creek 600 is a 2-day cycling marathon from Pitt Meadows to Cache Creek. The ride started Saturday morning at 7 a.m., according to the B.C. Randonneurs Cycling Club's website.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Lytton RCMP at 250-455-2225 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
