Homicide detectives called to Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood after deadly fight

SURREY, B.C. – One man has been killed in an early-morning fight in Surrey.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Bari Emam says officers were called to an area in the Newton neighbourhood just before 2 a.m.

He says police were responding to reports of a fight involving a group of men, but when RCMP arrived they found the critically injured victim.

The unidentified man was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Imam isn’t saying what caused the man’s injuries but he says there is no indication the killing is gang-related.

The area around 65B Avenue and 131 Street remains behind police tape and no arrests have been made. (The Canadian Press, Global, CKNW)
