Regional leadership talks $1.6M 911 service fix today

Finding the cash to fix the area's 911 emergency services will be on the plate of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen meeting today.

It will cost $1.6 million to upgrade the RDOS's 911 dispatch service which is used by fire, police and ambulance crews. The RDOS also has a contract with the City of Kelowna to provide fire dispatch service. A 2010 study found the current equipment was at a "risk of failure."

Today's RDOS meeting will also have acting chair Mark Pendergraft at the helm. Chair Dan Ashton has taken a leave of absence to run as the Liberal candidate in the 2013 B.C. election.

Pendergraft and RDOS leadership will also discuss adjusting the money and benefits RDOS directors receive and possible cuts to Canada Post services.
