B.C. Lions to honour former receiver Geroy Simon’s No. 81 jersey
VANCOUVER – The B.C. Lions will be honouring Geroy Simon by adding his No. 81 jersey to B.C. Place Stadium’s Ring of Honour this summer.
The Lions made the announcement Friday before taking on the Calgary Stampeders in a pre-season game. The jersey will be honoured with a ceremony on July 25 when B.C. hosts the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Simon, who announced his retirement earlier this month, is the CFL’s all-time leading receiver.
The six-foot, 198-pound Simon accumulated 1,029 career catches for 16,352 yards and 103 touchdowns with Winnipeg (1999-2000), B.C. (2001-’12) and Saskatchewan (2013).
He was the CFL’s outstanding player in ’06 with 105 catches for 1,856 yards and 15 TDs, capping that campaign with his first Grey Cup title.
The 38-year-old also won a Grey Cup with the Lions in 2011, and with the Roughriders last season.
