One of Colorado shooting victims narrowly missed Eaton Centre shooting
A young American woman who narrowly missed a deadly shooting at Toronto’s Eaton Centre last month is one of 12 people gunned down at Colorado movie theatre this morning.
Jessica Ghawi was killed after a gunman in a gas mask barged into a crowded Denver-area theatre during a midnight showing of the Batman movie, hurled a gas canister and then opened fire.
Ghawi had written on her blog on June 5 that she was eating inside of the Eaton Centre food court just minutes before shots rang out.
She wrote an “odd feeling” led her to go outside of the shopping mall three minutes before the shooting —“a feeling that may have potentially saved my life.”
Moments before Friday’s shooting, the aspiring sportscaster had posted on Twitter that she was at the theatre watching the movie with long-time friend Brent Lowak.
Ghawi’s family confirmed to local media in Denver that she was fatally shot. Lowak was shot at least once and is reportedly undergoing surgery.
