UPDATE: Coquihalla re-opens northbound between Hope and Merritt

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – A car crash closed the northbound lanes of Highway 5 at the Coquihalla Summit for hours on Saturday stopping drivers from Vancouver from getting to the Thompson-Okanagan via the highway. The route fully re-opened to traffic around 5 p.m.

The crash happened between Hope and Merritt.

VSA Highway Maintenance said B.C. Ambulance had a helicopter at the crash site between the Falls Lake exit and the Coquihalla Lake exit.

No other details area available about the number of people injured or their conditions.

Calls to the RCMP and the B.C. Ambulance service have not been immediately returned.

Both Highway 5 and 97C have compact snow and slippery sections throughout.
