Cloudy skies dominate Okanagan forecast this week

KELOWNA – It’s going to be cloudy and generally dull in the Okanagan this week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Carmen Hartt says what you see is what you get for the next few days as a high pressure ridge produces some thick valley cloud that isn’t moving anywhere soon.

A changing weather pattern on Thursday, Jan. 17, will bring — you guessed it — more clouds, this time laden with snow with up to two centimetres expected.

Hartt says it's unlikely the cloud will have a chance to burn off during the day, but there will be lots of sunshine at higher elevations, like up at the region’s ski areas.

The cloudy skies are also moderating nighttime temperatures in the valley.

Today, Jan. 14, the Okanagan can expect clouds, with sunshine at higher elevations, and a high of -1 Celsius.

It will be overcast on the valley floor tomorrow and Wednesday with highs of -2 C and -3 C respectively.

Lows will dip to -5 C Tuesday and -4 C Wednesday, with periods of snow beginning Wednesday night.

The snow will continue Thursday and Friday, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries. Temperatures will be close to seasonal normals with highs around -2 C and lows of -3 C both days.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of -2 C and lows of -8 C.
