B.C. Lottery Corporation to remain in existing downtown Kamloops headquarters

KAMLOOPS – The B.C. Lottery Corporation says they'll be staying put in their existing Kamloops headquarters and are postponing any further discussions of a redevelopment of the facility into the future.

After an assessment through a third party, a report found that despite inefficiencies in some parts of the 54-year-old Kamloops headquarters, the building is well-maintained and functioning, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release issued today, Jan. 17.

The report says the building will require planning around space requirements in the future and recommends the lottery corporation continue in its existing head office.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation made headlines in the past regarding future renovations of the downtown space.

The chair of the corporation's board of directors, Peter Kappel, says the building won't be seeing improvements in the near future.

“While we are not moving forward with a new development at this time, BCLC and the province of B.C. remain 100 per cent committed to our head office remaining in Kamloops,” Kappel says in the release.

The five decades old building will continue to be monitored to ensure it meets with future needs. The building was originally a Woodward's department store.

"Kamloops has remained the home of BCLC’s head office since day one, and that is not going to change,” Jim Lightbody, president and CEO says in the release. “We look forward to many more years of success in this community.”

The B.C. Lottery Corporation employs more than 440 people in Kamloops and it is the seventh largest employer in the city.
