62-year-old man arrested in connection with hit-and-run death of teenage boy

[byline]

SURREY, B.C. – A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 16-year-old motorcyclist in Surrey.

Police say the suspect was arrested at his home Wednesday, a day after witnesses reported seeing the driver of a silver Honda Accord slam into a motorcycle and continue to drive for a block before abandoning his car and fleeing.

The boy was pronounced dead in hospital.

RCMP say the suspect is co-operating and has been released from custody pending a court date if charges are approved by the Crown.

Criminal negligence causing death and failure to remain at the scene of an accident are possible charges but police say they’re at the early stages of what will be a lengthy investigation.

Mounties are calling on any witnesses to contact them if they have not already spoken with police.
