PHILADELPHIA – The Montreal Canadiens took Russian forward Nikita Scherbak of the Saskatoon Blades with the 26th overall pick of the NHL draft.
The six-foot-one 175-pound left-winger led all Western Hockey League rookies with 78 points (28-50) in 65 games last season.
Scherbak was named the Blades’ most valuable player and rookie of the year.
