
Canada’s Bouchard through to Wimbledon quarter-finals with win over Cornet
LONDON – Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard is through to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after defeating France’s Alize Cornet 7-6 (5), 7-5.
Bouchard trailed Cornet 4-2 in the second set, but battled back to keep her string of Grand Slam quarter-final appearances intact.
Bouchard, the 13th seed from Westmount, Que., advanced to the semifinals at the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year.
Cornet advanced to the fourth-round match after upsetting top seed Serena Williams on the weekend.
Bouchard will face the winner of the match between Maria Sharapova and Angelique Kerber in the quarter-finals.
Sharapova defeated Boucahrd in the French Open semis.
