Police watchdog appeals for witnesses to Kelowna RCMP shooting

KELOWNA – B.C.'s police watchdog is appealing for witnesses following a police shooting in Kelowna earlier this week.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said in a media release it is seeking witnesses to an officer-involved shooting at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.

RCMP officers attempted to apprehend a male and during the interaction shots were fired by police and the male was transported to hospital with serious injuries, the investigations office says.

Although they have some civilian witnesses they are still eager to speak to more people, even if they have already spoken to the RCMP.

Members of the public with any information are encouraged to call the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia which investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death.
