Representatives slam Park Police for cancelling meeting

WASHINGTON – Two Democratic representatives say the chief of the U.S. Park Police is refusing to meet with them to talk about police procedures following the fatal shooting of a Virginia man.

U.S. Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia say Chief Robert MacLean cancelled their scheduled meeting Tuesday at the last minute over his concern it would violate anti-lobbying laws. Beyer and Norton released a statement calling MacLean’s reasoning “erroneous.”

Beyer and Norton are pushing for mandatory dashboard and body cameras for all Park Police officers.

Park Police shot and killed Virginia resident Bijan Ghaisar in his car on Nov. 17 following an extended chase. The shooting was captured by the dashboard camera of a Fairfax County police car.
