Rousey, Davis both make weight for UFC 178, no fireworks as fighters square off

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – UFC bantamweight champion (Rowdy) Ronda Rousey and Canadian challenger Alexis Davis both made weight Friday for their UFC 178 co-main event showdown Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The two women weighed in at 135 pounds before posing for the cameras with no-nonsense expressions. But they shook hands amicably after the square-off.

Middleweight champion Chris Weidman weighed in at the middleweight limit of 185 pounds, half a pound more than challenger Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida. The two meet in the main event.

Friday’s weigh-in produced no fireworks.

Middleweight Bubba Bush marked the July 4 U.S. holiday by wearing red, while and blue shorts while bantamweight Russell Doane wore a U.S. wrestling singlet.

Brazilian welterweight Ildemar Alcantara paid tribute to his country’s World Cup win earlier in the day by wearing a Brazil shirt.
