Armstrong approves maintenance to prep for flooding

ARMSTRONG – Armstrong is taking preventative measures by performing maintenance work on a river that caused severe flood damage last year.

In a press release, the City of Armstrong announced it received permission from the provincial government to start maintenance work on Meighan Creek.

The City will be dredging the area and performing creek remediation.

Work is expected to start on Feb. 11 with a scheduled end date of Mar. 31, just before the spring season. The cost of the preventative measures was not stated in the release.

Last year, the City of Armstrong declared a state of emergency due to heavy flooding. Meighan Creek rose by half a metre, forcing the evacuation of 10 people in the area.
