Pistorius camp protests after Australian channel shows video of athlete re-enacting killing

JOHANNESBURG – A lawyer for Oscar Pistorius has criticized an Australian broadcaster that showed footage of the double-amputee runner participating in a re-enactment of how he fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Lawyer Brian Webber said in a statement Sunday the footage shown by Channel Seven was made with the help of a U.S.-based company last year as part of the defence team’s trial preparations.

The footage shows Pistorius walking on his stumps with an arm outstretched and fist clenched, as though holding a gun. It also shows Pistorius carrying a woman.

The athlete has said he carried Steenkamp out of a toilet cubicle after mistakenly shooting her because he thought there was an intruder in his home. The prosecution says he intentionally killed the 29-year-old model after they argued.
