‘Once’ to be mounted by Mirvish with all-Canadian cast in Toronto

TORONTO – A new production of the smash musical “Once” will open in Toronto with an all-Canadian cast next year.

Mirvish Productions says it will start running the show Feb. 10, 2015 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre.

Open call auditions are set for July 26 at the Randolph Academy in the city.

“Once” is based on the 2007 Oscar-winning film about an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant who bond in Dublin.

Irish playwright and screenwriter Enda Walsh penned the book for the stage adaptation, which won eight Tony Awards in 2012, including best musical.

A touring production ran in Toronto to a sell-out crowd in December.

Mirvish says the homegrown show will be directed and choreographed by the show’s creators, Tony Award winner John Tiffany and Steven Hoggett.
