Kelowna house fire leaves occupants displaced but uninjured

KELOWNA – Kelowna fire crews responded to an early morning blaze that claimed the life of a cat today.

According to a Kelowna Fire Department press release, on Feb. 6 at 7:25 a.m., a 911 call was received about a basement fire at a residence on the 300 block of Rutland Road South.

Personnel made sure the occupants were safely out of the building before dampening the fire from the outside. Once the flames abated, crews entered the residence and extinguished the flames.

Two people were displaced due to the fire, although no one was injured. Crews did discover a dead cat at the scene.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, but it is currently not deemed suspicious.
