Fire burns Enderby shop to the ground

ENDERBY – An Enderby dairy farmer suffered major losses in a fire early Monday morning.

Enderby fire chief Kevin Alstad says the homeowner awoke to a loud bang about 1:20 a.m. When he looked out the door, he saw a detached shop near the house was consumed in fire.

By the time 23 Enderby firefighters got to the fire on Dale Road, the roof of the shop had collapsed. It was too late to save the shop.

“We just protected the exposures. There were buildings very close to it and we made sure they were protected,” Alstad says.

A hay barn and a sawdust shed were in close proximity, and Alstad says things could have gone differently had the fire spread.

“If it got to that other barn we’d still be there today,” Alstad says.

The contents of the shop—including tractors, a bailer, snowmobiles and a pickup truck—were destroyed.

“Unfortunately he lost everything,” Alstad says.

Investigators continue to look into the cause of the fire.
