Cold and snow in store for Okanagan this week

KELOWNA – There’s snow and more cold weather in the Okanagan forecast this week before daytime highs move towards the freezing mark by the weekend.

Environment Canada says it'll be sunny but cold today, Feb. 11, with a high of -8 C and a wind of up to 15 km/h producing a wind child of -23 in the morning and -11 in the afternoon.

You can expect increasing cloud tonight with periods of snow beginning late this evening. About two centimetres of snow could fall overnight in with a low of -12 and wind chill around -15.

The periods of snow will continue tomorrow with another two to four cm expected to fall before it changes to flurries in the afternoon with a mix of sun and cloud. Expect a high tomorrow of around -7 C with a wind chill of near -14 C. There is a 60 per cent chance of flurries overnight with a low of -10 C.

The forecast calls for cloudy skies on Wednesday with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -5 C. More snow in the form of flurries is expected overnight Wednesday with a low of -8 C.

The snow is expected to continue Thursday, with periods of snow Thursday night. The daytime high will reach -2 C with an overnight low of -5 C.

The cloudy skies continue Friday, with a high of -2 C and a 30 per cent chance of flurries.

The weekend could see daytime highs around 0 C on Saturday and Sunday.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of around 1 C and lows of about -6 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014.
