Penticton hires another new chief administrative officer

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton has found a new chief administrative officer.

Donny van Dyk will join city staff in the role, coming to Penticton from Enbridge where he served in several senior roles in community and indigenous affairs, government affairs and finance, according to a City of Penticton media release. The City received 91 resumes for the position.

Prior to Enbridge, van Dyk served in the B.C. municipal public sector, working as chief administrative officer and chief financial officer for the District of New Hazelton, the city says.

“Council is very much looking forward to working with Mr. van Dyk over the course of our term,” Penticton Mayor John Vassilaki said in the release.

Van Dyk, originally from Terrace, holds a masters in public education degree from the University of Victoria and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Northern British Columbia as well as being a chartered professional accountant, the release states. Van Dyk also served on the board of governors of Coast Mountain College and the North Central Local Government Management Association, as well as serving on the legacy committee of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

“I am excited for the opportunity to help implement the mayor and council’s vision for the City of Penticton and am honoured to lead a dedicated and professional staff at the city,” said van Dyk said in the release.

van Dyk will replace outgoing CAO Peter Weeber who announced his resignation in January. No start date has been finalized.

van Dyk is Penticton’s fourth CAO since 2010. Weeber took on the position following the resignation of Eric Sorensen in 2016, who held the position for a year. Prior to that, Annette Antoniak held the position from 2010 to 2015.
