Coquihalla Highway closed southbound between Hope and Merritt

If your travel plans today include the Coquihalla Highway you may need to rethink them.

Highway 5 is closed southbound between Merritt and Hope this afternoon, Feb. 12, following a vehicle incident between Highway 5A, Highway 97C and Highway 3, according to Drive B.C.

Drive B.C. says an assessment is in progress and points out the northbound lanes are open.

The alternate routes available include Highway 1, Highway 3 or Highway 5A where Drive B.C. warns winter driving conditions exist.

There's no word on when the southbound lanes will reopen.

For the latest on the status of Coquihalla Highway check out the Drive B.C. website here.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
