‘Buddy Holly Story’ to open in Toronto with new Canadian production

TORONTO – A new Canadian production of “Buddy — The Buddy Holly Story” is set to open in Toronto in October.

Nu Musical Productions says it will mount the show at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre.

Charles Roy, co-founder of Classical Theatre Projects, will direct the story of Holly’s rise to fame with hits including “That’ll Be The Day” and “Peggy Sue.”

The production will launch the company’s new “Live at the Winter Garden” series of musical theatre presentations.

Nu Musical Productions chairperson Marlene Smith helped refurbish the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre over 30 years ago.

The Toronto theatre producer was also behind the original Canadian production of “Cats” nearly 30 years ago as well as last year’s remount of the show.
