Lions running back Harris wins top offensive and Canadian awards for Week 3

TORONTO – B.C. running back Andrew Harris is the CFL’s top offensive player and top Canadian for Week 3 after his big game helped the Lions beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 26-13.

Edmonton Eskimos defensive tackle Almondo Sewell was named the top defensive player, while Calgary Stampeders kick returner Jock Sanders was awarded the week’s special teams honour.

Harris rushed for 138 yards and scored a touchdown on 18 carries in Saturday’s win over the Roughriders. The Winnipeg native added five receptions for a team-high 65 yards.

Harris scored his second touchdown of the season on a 58-yard run that gave the Lions a 11-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Sewell recorded four tackles, including sacking Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris a career-high three times in the Eskimos 27-11 win over Ottawa on Friday.

Sewell also added a special teams tackle in the win.

This is Sewell’s first Player of the Week award in his career.

Sanders returned Swayze Waters’s missed field goal for 121 yards to set up a Jeff Fuller touchdown in his team’s 34-15 win over the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.

Sanders also returned three punts for 34 yards and a kickoff for 19 yards.
