Eagle River library, offices close for quake damage review

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Construction experts are assessing whether the building that houses municipal offices and a library in Eagle River is safe.

Anchorage television station KTVA reports bricks on the facade of Eagle River Town Center were loosened during the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in November.

The building was closed Friday for additional analysis.

An athletic club has reopened in the middle of the building but the south side remains closed.

The south side houses the Chugiak-Eagle River Library, the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and municipal offices.

Anchorage director of real estate services Robin Ward says crews will take additional brick facade and foam off walls and use wall sonar to check concrete blocks for damage.

Initial results show no damage inside. Ward says a full assessment should be completed in two weeks.
