More winter weather for the weekend in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – There doesn’t appear to be an end to February’s winter weather in Kamloops, certainly not this weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says this week’s weather systems crossing the southern half of the province have brought with them a “high degree of uncertainty,” but says the next system, expected this evening, Feb. 14, will bring snow to Kamloops.

Today will be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries this afternoon and a high of -4 Celsius. Those flurries will turn to periods of snow overnight with five centimetres expected.

An additional five cm is expected tomorrow, with temperatures climbing to -3 C and wind chills easing to -12 C in the morning and -7 C in the afternoon. The snow is expected to continue overnight tomorrow with a low of -8 C.

Accumulations on the Coquihalla Highway and other high elevation highways are expected in the 10 to 15 cm range.

On Saturday, the temperature will reach a high of -4 C under cloudy skies with an overnight low of -12 C.

Sekhon says colder air will push in to the city overnight, clearing skies on Sunday but dropping temperatures with a high of -7 C and an overnight low of -15 C.

The work week begins Monday with the return of more snow and cold with a high of -5 C and a low of -9 C.

Tuesday is expected to warm up a bit with a high of 0 C under a mix of sun and cloud.

Sekhon says the long range forecast for the remainder of the month predicts temperatures to fluctuate around the freezing mark, with below normal temperatures prevailing into the final week of the month.

Kamloops is normally looking at a high of 4 C and a low of -4 C this time of year.
