49-YEAR-OLD WOMAN CHARGED WITH ARSON
WEST KELOWNA – Police say they charges were laid against a woman suspected of burning her own car on fire in an underground garage last month that could have set the entire apartment building on fire.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Oct. 13, the West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire inside the underground parking garage of an apartment building on the 3600 block of Carrington Road. Firefighters put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to the building but police say they have evidence the fire was intentionally lit and arrested Jeanine Marie Bastien earlier this week.
She is charged with arson causing damage to her own property, arson in an inhabited property and mischief. She was released and scheduled to appear in court Nov. 28.
