Fake gun lands Kelowna man in jail

A man was arrested after pointing a replica handgun at two people in an alley in Kelowna Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened in the area of Richter Street and Wardlaw Avenue at about 1 p.m. and police traced the man to a nearby residence where he as arrested without incident as he exited. The replica handgun was seized from the home.

According to an RCMP fact sheet, replica handguns are prohibited in Canada, unless owned before Dec. 1, 1998. This includes replicas that look like real guns in size, shape and colour. Replicas that are significantly larger or smaller, or made of brightly coloured plastic are evaluated on a case by case basis. The man appeared in court Sunday morning via phone to face numerous charges. The investigation continues.
